Dynamic Educational Module for Emergencies (D.E.M.E)

The D.E.M.E was born inside the context of Temporary Learning Spaces during emergencies where children have no access to education. The DEME is a system of modules that when put together with supports the development of recovery activities within the walls of a TLS. This component will create an appropriate space to carry out physical, cognitive, creative and social activities, offering versatility in the configuration of space while reducing the use of materials, resources and complex equipment. Using these modules allows a rigid space, such as a tent, to become flexible and playful and to change according to the needs of the subject.

Although DEMEis composed of 3 components: a mat, a blackboard and a pencil case (with writing material), the main component is actually the mat. This mat is made of two layers of fabric with rigid panels in the middle, through a system of folds and laces it allows the creation different configurations, it is a two-dimensional element that when folded becomes three-dimensional. The D.E.M.E can be folded together with its other components to become a compact backpack, messenger bag or handbag so children can carry it comfortably and also so it can be easily distributed to emergency sites.
